Welding of Large Thickness Super Duplex Stainless Steel: Microstructure and Properties

In this study, Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) and Gas Metal (GMAW) processes were used in multi-pass welding of 33 mm thickness super duplex stainless steel plates. Recommended higher than recommended arc energy interpass temperatures used. Both GMAW SAW able to produce large weldments meeting the microstructural, mechanical, corrosion resistance requirements, also when using temperature. It was possible reduce number passes by half The process needed only time required for a weldment with nearly same weld passes, Based on results investigation, practical recommendations thicknesses should be revised updated.
